Outlook 2010 is Running

When I start a continous data backup I receive a message that Outlook is running and will not be backed up.  I always keep Outlook open during the day.  Will BounceBack not back it up? If not, how do I get all my contacts and e-mails backed up?

This is a warning message from BounceBack that prompts the user to close Outlook in order for BounceBack to create a copy of your .PST file(s) correctly.

Am I to assume, therefore, that BB does not back up any open programs?

It does but not in real time. The volume shadow copy feature that BounceBack uses will not be able to perform a backup of any changes that take place after BounceBack analyzes your system. In your specific case any changes made to Outlook after BounceBack has analyzed your system will not be copied to the backup drive. This is one reason why we recommend closing Outlook.

Have had two experiences. The outlook's shadow copy is copied. Will not be the latest but it will not be the one that will be few days old. But my excel files were never copied till I closed them.

Any way to have this backed up while still open?

For office 2010 it is imperative that you close your files. The Shadow Copy feature will not copy the Office files. Instead it will copy the temporary files that Microsoft Office creates when such files are opened. These temporary files are used to help users recover in case Word, Excel, etc. crashes.
